Landlord Faces Multiple Charges for Property Neglect in Bradford: Court Date Set for Sentencing

Landlord Pleads Guilty to Neglect of Multiple Properties in Bradford

In a case that shows long-lasting issues in managing shared homes, landlord Hasan Kazi pleaded guilty. He admitted nine counts linked to neglect at two houses on Easby Road, near the Bradford College Trinity Green campus. He made his plea on February 20 at the Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court.

Charges and Offences

Kazi broke rules set by the Housing Act 2004. He did not keep the properties safe, clean, or well maintained. The court learned he did not fix many problems that affected tenants living in the homes.

Kazi also broke an order given on November 29, 2023. The order stopped the use of 8 Easby Road because a safety risk threatened those who lived there. Even with the order, Kazi let tenants remain without fixing the hazards. He did not follow urgent instructions to fix these risks from mid-May to June 2024. Imran Hussain, who speaks for Bradford Council, said the court only looked at two properties. More cases and court dates are now in progress. This means more legal action is coming.

Council’s Position

This case shows the role local councils have in managing rented homes. Bradford Council works hard to enforce housing rules and keep tenants safe. The council plans more steps against Kazi to make sure he meets his duty to care for his properties and the people who live in them.

Next Steps

Sentencing for Hasan Kazi is set for April 16, 2024. The magistrates delayed the decision so that charges, now being prepared by Bradford Council, can be added. The delay shows that the court wants to handle all issues linked to Kazi’s property management.

Conclusion

This case reminds property owners who run shared homes that renting out properties comes with legal duties. Following housing rules is not just a formality; it is needed to give tenants safe living spaces. As the case moves ahead, landlords and property investors must watch their responsibilities and understand the effects of not following the law.
